I'm
not sure how anyone could make this mistake. First, read
this. Now, look
at my photo next to the other David Hernandez. Clearly we
don't look alike. Clearly. One of us has a round head, a beard,
and glasses (that would be me). And the other doesn't, doesn't, and
doesn't. But for some reason, this guy still
believed he was emailing the American Idol contestant. And so did
this guy.

This
is old news, but here are some pics
from the publication party last month. Thanks to all who came and celebrated
with us.

Here
are my favorite albums of the year. 2008 will start off with a bang
with new records by Black Mountain and Blood On the Wall. Also coming
out is Thao Nguyen & the Get Down Stay Down's We Brave Bee Stings
and All, which should catapult Ms. Nguyen into indie/folk stardom
a la Feist. Check out her
catchy tunes on her MySpace page.
Tried escargot for
the first time. Wasn't as squishy as I thought it would be.
Was a victim of credit card fraud. Among their expenses: $84.68 at a
Chevron station, $33.33 at Red Lobster, $12.92 at Subway, and $8.21
at McDonald's.
Been reading the new issues of Field
(Props to Kary Wayson, Lia Purpura, James Jackson, and Megan Snyder-Camp)
and The
Cincinnati Review (Fist bumps to Marianne Boruch and Sharmila
Voorakkara).
Went to the screening of Starting
Out in the Evening, which is now playing at a theater near
you (unless you're in Juno, Alaska). It's so good. Definitely check
it out. You can watch the trailer here
below the movie poster.
Saw No Country For
Old Men as well, which follows the storyline of McCarthy's
novel pretty faithfully, including big chunks of dialogue. It's definitely
the best thing the Coen brothers have done. Early in the film, when
the camera slowly panned across the floor of a sheriff's office where
a violent struggle had occurred, the hundreds or so scuff marks left
by the bootheels like something out of a Cy
Twombly painting, I knew I was watching something extraordinary.
Go see it. Friend-o.
And I almost walked face first into this
spider (Argiope aurantia) in my back yard, also known as the
Writing Spider. He was big enough to push a lawnmower. Not sure where
he is now. Probably getting ready to tip over parked cars up and down
2nd Street.
